Every CD & DVD listed this week is something that I personally own (or have the same songs/movie on a similar release) & really like! And for the first time ever, this edition includes quite a few $3 00 clearance items with full descriptions!
My musical taste is actually quite a bit wider then this indicates, as my recommendations in this newsletter are limited by what we currently have in stock; but there are some great gems here & it's pretty safe to say your chance of ordering a turkey from this list is small to zero!
Now for a quick (& I hope final) update on the US postal increases:
If you live in the USA it won't impact what we charge you at all for first class & media mail
Unfortunately, for those outside of the USA, it's not so pleasant Those in Canada are getting shafted the worst The one bit of kind of good news is the biggest increase is on smaller packages The absolute best deal we can offer international customers on shipping is order a bunch (10-12) of cd's with disc & covers but without jewelcases We can ship a 1 pound package to Canada for $12 00 USD & to the rest of the world for $17 50 USD
Single & double cd's & DVD's will range from $9 50 - $10 20 to Canada & $11 38 - $13 98 to the rest of the world depending on weight I apologize for this, but it is completely beyond my control

* Chicago Transit Authority - 1st Album (Legacy Gold Disc In Original Long Box) - This is the original CBS audiophile release, from my personal collection The disc is scratch free It has been treated with the Audioprism Green Pen on the outer edge for sound quality It has also been stored in the jewel case separate from the long box, so while the long box does show a little wear from 30 ish years of sitting on the shelf, it's reasonably clean also This sells for $169-$306 on Amazon, & the only one on ebay is $169 While they turned quite syrupy by their 3rd or 4th record, this one is an awesome rock classic! Includes killer guitar & some great horn charts on Beginnings, Questions 67&68, Listen, South California Purples, I'm A Man & more Good stuff! CBS 57186 $79 99

* Reefer Madness (Sealed DVD) - Colorized, restored version from legend with optional commentary from MSci-fi 3000 & choice of colorized & restored b/w 1935 I own a copy of this While I haven't yet had time to watch it, knowing Legend's work I suspect the b&w restoration is likely quite good Legend 00045 $6 99
* Return Of The Vampire (Sealed DVD) - Ok, Bela Lugosi fans, you've got to pick this one up! While a later period film that does have a tacky Werewolf costume, this is basically Bela reprising his role as Dracula Universal owned the rights to the name "Dracula", so here Bela is "Armand Tesla", but it's largely an older version of the same character The only other time bela got to play the vampire after this was in an Abbot & Costello B-flick Bela was actually quite good in that, but I have trouble getting past A&C's constant irritation If like me you're a Lugosi fan, I recommend this, I paid quite a bit more for my copy! * Reunion in France (Sealed DVD) - 1942 classic is set in WW2 France with John Wayne starring opposite of Joan Crawford as a downed US fighter pilot Entertaining film, but be warned: Wayne doesn't do well acting wise paired with the superior skills of Crawford This is a cutout, like other recent Warner overstock dvd's, the slash in the upc code is quite large Warner 79735 $3 00

* Shari Ulrich - Long Nights (New Sealed LP) - One of the great unheard albums of all time Never released in the US, this was a bit of a hit in Canada Shari's career started with the folky Pied Pumpkin, moved to the funky Hometown Band & then released this killer rock album in the early 80's A very loose comparison could be made to Stevie Nicks/Fleetwood Mac, except Shari's voice is much better She's also an accomplished violin player Includes the Canadian hit single Bad bad Girl, + Long Nights, Chameleon, Mysterious Child & more I'm familiar with the A&M Canada release This version is on Sloth Records out of vancouver BC I don't know if it's the original, or a later reissue If you're into vinyl & great well played pop/rock this comes highly recommended - it's one of my all time favorites To the best of my knowledge it's never been released on cd Sloth Canada 9046 $6 99
