Welcome to our first issue of the new year, & I promise it's a good one!

There's a lot I want to tell you about, but most importantly, after years of having our wholesale suppliers go out of business, I finally found a new large overstock wholesaler with some excellent titles at best ever pricing (& who also gets new titles frequently!) While their cd's & movies don't fill up the entire newsletter, the majority of what we're offering this week come from this company I especially think that jazz fans, collectors of the Smithsonian label & fans of music dvd's are going to be pleased!

We've also got some new titles from yet another record company going out of business, Renaissance Records, including a previously & soon to be again) rare concert from Bob Welch, at $10 lower than the last time we offered it!

We also have a ton of extremely inexpensive John Wayne & Clint Eastwood titles in dvd's

The #1 most exciting release of the new year is the Hometown Band cd's finally getting an official (Canadian only) release We've got 'em both for you, autographed by Shari Ulrich We also continue to offer almost all of Shari's catalog for you In fact at the moment the only title completely unavailable is UHF #1; & we still have exclusive rights to sell the cdr's of her first 3 solo albums!

Moving on to jazz, a number of years ago, one of our regular customers asked if we could carry more from the OJC series My reluctant answer was that we focus on off price titles, & the Pablo/Riverside/Prestige, etc cd's just weren't getting marked down Guess what, we've got a TON of them this week, & ar pretty hard to believe prices of $5 99-$7 99 brand new There are too many great artists to list in this introduction, but I really hope that jazz fans will take the time to browse our great selection!

In both blues, & Folk, we've got a very nice selection of Smithsonian releases, including lots of Pete Seeger, the Broadside box set, a Phil Ochs rarities compilation & much more Classical music fans will find several hybrid SACD's, Robert Shaw, & a message that may be of interest if you'd like to build a great classical music collection cheap

Moving on to dvd, I'm pretty sure this is our largest concert selection ever on a newsletter Some of the artists you'll find include Joan Armatrading, Asia, ELP, a tribute to Traffic's Jim Capaldi, Bryan Ferry, Foreigner, Steve Hackett, Jefferson Airplane, Ronnie Lane, several of the very rare officially released Midnight Special compilations, 2 of the very cool BBC Old Grey Whistle Test sets, lots of Time-Life 2001 live Soul concerts, a great Roxy Music documentary, 3 different Yes concerts & many more

For classic film collectors, we have picked up several of the very hard to find Roan dvd's Roan is quite possibly the highest quality public domain dvd company ever A number of years ago they were bought out by Troma, & their catalog has been slowly going out of print ever since As they disappear, the collector's value has tended to get ridiculously pricey due to the quality, so they are also a great investment We have several Roan titles scattered through dvd's this week all brand new & several from Bela Lugosi

I think I need to stop writing, but I promise there's tons of great stuff this week!

One bit of bad news: the US Postal service is doing yet another postal increase on january 22nd US customers won't see the increase (unless you require priority mail or higher), but all international postage is increasing by 15%, & we are going to have to pass that along

* Lou Reed - Berlin: Live At St Anne's Warehouse (Sealed UK issue) - This description is from a review I wrote of the companion dvd (same show & songs): Saw the DVD last night Very short review: 5 stars out of 5 I can't think of ANY other rocker in their mid 60's interpreting their early material from 1973 with this sort of INTEGRITY, power, musicianship, musicality & emotion This is MILES beyond anything the Stones, Who, Led Zeppelin, Cream, Deep Purple, Aerosmith, etc have done in the last 20 years The only artists I know who come CLOSE to making their early 70's material relevant like this in new performance are Bruce Cockburn & Bowie's 90's work with Reeves Gabrels, neither of whom pulled it off like Reed does here Doesn't hurt to have a CRACK band anchored by Steve Hunter & Rob Wasserman (the entire band is tremendous) What both makes it so special & oddly also at the same time might be my only criticism is this is NOT a greatest hits show The only song on Berlin that qualifies for ME as a "greatest hit" is Lady Day (though the feel of the song has nothing in common with Billie Holiday stylistically, this song catches her essence better then any book I've ever read!) Berlin has several other strong songs (Sad Songs, Caroline Says, Men Of Good Fortune; there are NO bad songs on it), but again; it's not a hits show We do get Sweet Jane as an Encore There's just something about seeing Reed feel these songs about being a 31 year old love lorn junkie as much at 64 as he did at 31 that melts me Highly recommended Matador UK 849 $9 75
