Happy Father's Day weekend & Welcome to #5! I'm unfortunately (?)
breaking a promise here, this is a big 'un. In fact it's gotten to the point
where to get this to you, I've stopped writing about cd's, there's about
50 good titles already lined up for the next list! And one promise I am
keeping, our pricing on used items is even lower this month that the
last 2 editions. in fact starting in July we are going to have to raise our
prices on ebay (due to ebay fee increaes), but they will stay rock bottom
for you on the newsletter.

We've got highlights all over the place. Let's start with Music DVD/CD
combos:

The USA Best Buy chain has been deleting a number of there exclusive
sets, & we've got several of them at previously unheard prices, as most
originally had a $29.99 list price. In both cd & dvd you'll find deluxe
sets from The Police, Elton John, & The Rolling Stones; in cd only
you'll find the Smashing Pumpkins, in DVD you'll find the Beatles Love
All Together Now dvd, & in both cd & vinyl LP you'll find the GNR
Chinese Democracy release; the LP is pressed on 180 Gram audiophile
vinyl!

In cd another feature is a number of Jefferson Starship Live titles,
almost all imports & all with different lineups. Other cool stuff
includes several collector's titles from Spirit, more "official
bootlegs" from leslie West solo & Mountain, restock of the very popular
Deep Purple Live in London deluxe import, Most of the K2 Creedence
remasters, an import Hot Tuna 2 cd radio broadcasts collection, a UK

In jazz we have a very nice selection of classics, including several of
the Avid UK titles at the best prices we've ever been able to offer from
artists like Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Django
Reinhardt & more.

In Blues we've got 4 Eva Cassidy Titles.

Another of our features this month is we picked up some really nice
indie & classical titles brand new at great savings! You'll find these
scattered throughout the newsletter, but especially in folk & classical.
We also purchase part of one of customer's cd collections, you'll find
these great titles sprinkled throughout the newsletter

Moving on to film, we're finally starting to get offered Blu-ray at an
acceptable price. While mostly used & a small selection, Blu fans should
be able to find some great bargains (Heck I don't even have a BR player
yet, & I'm still tempted to keep Heathers for myself!).

Finally in dvd's, you'll find our usual blend of new & used (& at
somewhat lower prices), with our usual focus on classics & out of the
ordinary where possible. Some titles that may be of interest: Aqua Teen
Hunger Force 1 & 3, an Audrey Hepburn 3 film box, the Back To The Future

*** Beatles - Yellow Submarine (remixed version) - While it may have
offended some Beatles purists, I was impressed with this 1999 set. The
remixes seemed to bring out subtle parts that were inaudible before
without being at all overwhelming. Features really decent sound quality
on Eleanor Rigby, All Together Now, Lucy in the Skies With Diamonds, Sgt
Pepper's, With A Little Help From My Friends, All You Need Is Love &
more. 15 songs. Has a few teeny markings, mostly outside of the music

is also the first Beatles release (other then rarities collections & the
remastered Yellow Submarine) to really give you your money's worth &

*** David Bowie - Tin Machine 2 -  This is their second (out of
print) cd. I believe that the Tin Machine records are by far Bowie's
best work of the 90's. Featuring Reeves Gabrels on guitar, this is
Bowie's hardest rock sound since the early 70's. Includes a cover of
Roxy Music's If There Is Something, and (strangely) a blues song
(Stateside) sung by the drummer that sounds like it belongs on an AC-DC

*** Bow Wow Wow - Aphrodisiac: Best of (Sealed UK issue) - While I can't
comment on the sound quality, this looks like the best BWW 1 disc best
of I've ever seen. From 1996, 21 tracks include 12" versions of Go Wild
In The Country, Chihuahua & the title track; + I Want Candy, I'm A TV
Savage, Baby Oh No, See Jungle, Louis Quatorze, Do You Wanna Hold Me,
Elimination Dancing & lots more. Despite their someone odd image, the

one shows. At any rate, this out of print set includes a total of 32
songs: Ram Rod, Rebel Rouser, Theme From Dixie, John Henry, Cripple
Creek, Ring Of Fire & many more. Apparently Motown acquired the Jamie
catalog. it's pretty amazing how much the price has dropped on these out
of print motown 2 on 1's, just a few years ago, they pretty much always

which appear to be various Capitol recordings. The 19 Capitol tracks are
actually somewhat difficult to find these days unless you own the Mosaic
Capitol box set, or the somewhat expensive Definitive Spain spin off
release of the Mosaic.  While I can't comment either way on the sound
quality, pretty much all of these 42 songs are great for Ellington fans.

We haven't sent out an explanation our in house grading
system in a couple years, so I decided to add it to today's newsletter.

Unlike records, there's never been a widely accepted grading system for
cd's & dvd's; so I sort of created our own when we started this in 1998.
It goes as follows (all of these are with the exception of jewelcase
damage, which we may not mention as jewelcases are usually generic, 25
cents each & very easily damaged & replaced):

"Sealed" - Brand new

"New but not sealed" - Also brand new, but not in cellophane. Many
European releases are not issued in shrink wrap & are usually only
sealed if a supplier has a shrink wrap machine. Occasionally we also get
brand new USA cd's that for various reasons are sold to us out of the
cellophane.

Used, with no flaws mentioned in the description - This is our default
if we don't mention otherwise. The equivalent of the old vinyl "mint-"
grade; not quite perfect but really close.

"Extremely Lightly Scratched" - "Extremely Lightly" (i.e just barely,
very little, etc) is the key here; this grades between the old Vinyl VG+
(means Very Good+) & mint-. Not quite perfect, & most people wouldn't
even see the scratching.

"Very Lightly Scratched" - Usually The Equivalent of either VG or VG+ in
vinyl. Any scratching is quite light.

"Lightly Scratched" - Equivalent Of VG-; there are some light scratches,
but the disc looks mostly clean

"Light-Moderately Scratched" - Equivalent to either Good + or VG-, the
scratches are more visible, but no circular scratches & will definitely
play fine.

"Moderately Scratched" - This is the lowest grade that we believe is
likely to play with no skips, the scratching is getting heavier &
doesn't look real good. Equivalent to the vinyl grade of good.

The last 2 grades we use are "moderate-heavily scratched" & for the
worst discs, "heavily scratched". These are pretty beat up & may or may
not still play perfectly. It's very seldom that we offer anything in
these categories (or even "moderate" for that matter). As an fyi, they
only way I've found to be able to see all scratches on an optical disc
is under a regular standard light bulb. Florescent lights & sunlight
tend to hide about 50% of scratches. I look at every used disc under a
regular light bulb when writing the descriptions.

Caveat: While I'm quite picky about scratches, as I'm aging I now have
cataracts in both eyes, so I suspect I may be starting to miss some of
the real small scratches. So far 0 complaints, though!
