One quick bit of good news: As of the moment, none of the US Postal Service rate increases so far announced will effect us There is supposed to be a first class increase later this spring, but for now our shipping rates will stay the same The USPS has gone to a new delivery confirmation bar code, which was badly broken earlier in the month We THINK they now have it fixed And for international (non USA) customers, the good news is that in most cases it appears that the USPS is starting to once again scan the customs forms at our end, though they are missing a few of them

2010 Top Ten CD (+) List:

Each January I share my fav releases of the previous year & ask you to do the same My list is a bit unique this year in that it is mostly reissues/Vault (Am I showing my age?!) I've also received 1 list so far from one of our customers; if you'd like to email me your list, I'd be glad to publish it in the next newsletter! First here's my list (I cheated, there's lots of honorable mentions!)

I am reluctantly ranking the new Mosaic Ellington 30's box #1, but as far as sound quality it is one of the most disappointing releases ever from Mosaic The reason I'm ranking it #1 (or ranking it all for that matter) is because a good portion of the music was previously unobtainable on cd This release (along with last year's companion small group set) plugs the next to last major hole in DE's officially release on cd catalog The one hole left that I'm aware of is also Sony owned masters: late 50's-early 60's About 2/3 of that material has been released at some point on cd (& almost all on LP), but currently there are a bunch of holes there & it also needs a box or reissue campaign

I'm also sadly aware that 4 of my top 10 are reissues & a 5th (Zappa) is also a vault release

* Dan Reed Network - s/t - Awesome cd Like their entire catalog, this is out of print in the US >From Portland in the mid-80's, this is their 1st & best album With a blend of Funk & Hard rock, they sound a bit like Prince when he's in his hard rock mode, and are all awesome players Oddly, they were huge in Europe, where they opened for the Stones & Bon Jovi; but never made it here If you like this style, I can't recommend this one enough This includes their only US hits, Get To You, & Ritual There is an import edition, but it separates the 1st 2 songs, which are joined together on this original USA version Mercury 834309 $7 99
